Dear Students,
We are looking forward to the upcoming Winter Term 2025/2026 at the CS faculty at RUB!
The registration deadline for lab course and seminars is approaching fast (Monday, 1. September 2025) and we would like to introduce you to the courses offered by the Operating Systems and System Software Group [1].
== Lecture: Energy-Aware Computing Systems (EASY) ==
This Master's course focuses on energy-aware computing systems, exploring topics such as power management, energy-demand analysis, and operating system architecture to optimize computer performance while minimizing energy consumption. Through research papers and hands-on exercises, you learn to apply theoretical concepts to real-world systems, evaluating the impact of energy-efficient strategies on overall system efficiency.

Please register for this course by mail. Seats are allocated on a first-come first-served basis.
== Seminar: Resource-efficient System Software / Ressourceneffiziente Systemsoftware (RESY) ==
Modern system software plays a critical role in optimizing resource utilization while ensuring maximum operational efficiency in both current and emerging computing environments. Operating systems, as fundamental components of system software, must continually evolve to accommodate new hardware architectures (e.g., disaggregated memory) and changing computational requirements (e.g., near-memory computing). Through an examination of current research, this seminar explores cutting-edge approaches to resource-efficient system software design and implementation.

== Lab Class: System Software Engineering Lab Course / Systemsoftwaretechnik Praktikum (STEP) ==
The course focuses on the development of software for and within in the Linux kernel. This includes in-depth exercises to configure, change, and compile the Linux kernel. Building on that knowledge, you will solder a USB-based micro controller board hosting a temperature sensor, develop a Linux driver, and the corresponding kernel module for this development platform.
