Department of Earth Science and Engineering

Postdoctoral Research Associate in Geodynamics

Salary range ?26,580 - ?29,550 per annum

Fixed term appointment for up to 3 Years
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to
work on 3-D numerical modelling of subduction. The aim of the
project is to perform dynamic subduction models and compare the
results with global observations, to explore how 3-D variation in the
lithospheric structure of the downgoing plate determines subduction
behaviour. The project is funded by the Natural Environment Research
Council, and is supervised by Dr Saskia Goes.

The successful candidate will have a PhD (or equivalent) in
Geophysics, or in a closely related field, with experience in
numerical modelling of mantle and/or lithospheric dynamics. Part of
the project involves collaboration with and travel to the groups of
Professor Faccenna and Dr Funiciello in Rome and Professor Moresi in
Melbourne. The appointment is for up to three years, and should
start on or before 1 July 2009.

Further information can be obtained from Saskia Goes,
s.goes at imperial.ac.uk.

Application forms can be downloaded from http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/
employment/research

A completed application form, a curriculum vitae, a brief statement
of research interests, and names and contact details of at least two
referees, should be sent to Darakshan Khan, d.khan at imperial.ac.uk.
Please quote PDRA/SGoes/subduction in all correspondence.

Closing date: Initially 28 February 2009; applications after this
date will be accepted if the post remains unfilled
