Dear Geoqus
I will be a beginner of Abaqus; during May and June I am planning to carry
out, together with Nina Kukowsky (GFZ Potsdam) a thermal modeling of the
Andean subduction zone using Abaqus. So, for me would be really great to
participate in a technical meeting (maybe the third week of May?).
Best regards

Dear colleagues,

in our last circular e-mail about two weeks ago we proposed to organize a
technical workshop on Abaqus users for geotechnical application in Karlsruhe
in spring/summer 2004. Since the response was very small (only two e-mails
apart of the ones from Karlsruhe and Bochum) we would like to start an open
discussion to figure out if there is a) no interest on the suggested topics
or b) the number of geoscientific Abaqus users is just to small and we should
address the workshop to a broader audience (e.g. as the one which was organized
in 2001 from the Karlsruhe Stress Group (check under conferences at the URL
http://www-wsm.physik.uni-karlsruhe.de/pub/research/research_frame.html.

The key point of our proposed workshop is not to gather only specialists,
but also beginners. It will also provide enough time for the presentation
of the scientific results of the geodynamic models, but with an emphasis
on the technical background of the model approach. We also plan to set up
enough PC's with Abaqus/Patran/Hypermesh for practical work and testing.

We really would appreciate to hear your opinion and to get your comments.
You can do this either in an open manner, addressing you mail to the user
group, or send an individual e-mail to one of us. It would be nice if everybody
could drop at least a short message if there is interest/time in such workshop
or not. That would help us to decide whether we'll put more effort into it
or not.

We are looking forward to a fruitful and open discussion,

best regards
Oliver and Kasper
