an opening for a postdoctoral Research Associate to work in the <a
href="http://www.geology.umd.edu/%7Emontesi/Geodynamics/index.html">geodynamics
laboratory</a> on a project funded by the National Science
Foundation. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The <span
style="mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman";
mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"">project,
entitled <b>"Fabric
Evolution and the Development of Ductile Shear Zones,"</b></span><b>
</b>aims at
better constraining, from a theoretical and mechanical point of
view, the
structure of the lithosphere beneath seismically active faults.
The research
associate will develop a numerical model of strike-slip motion
using the
<a href="http://www.dealii.org">deal.II finite element library</a>
and simulate with it the development of a
ductile shear zone underneath a seismogenic fault. Experience in
computational
modeling, especially using finite element methods, is highly
desirable. <o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">The position is for 2 ½ years, contingent upon
satisfactory
performance. All Ph.D. requirements must be completed by the time
