"Index Calculus Attack for Hyperelliptic Curves"

                  Montag, 12.09.2005, 13:15 Uhr, IC 4/39

Abstract

For many abelian groups, including those coming from elliptic and
hyperelliptic curves, solving the discrete logarithm problem can be
extremely difficult. This difficulty is in fact essential to the
security
of public key cryptosystems based on these groups.

In this talk, we will describe the discrete log problem and what is
known
about it for Jacobians of hyperelliptic curves. We will then explain
how
the latest variation of the index calculus algorithm works. Finally, we
will discuss what impact this algorithm has on elliptic and
hyperelliptic
cryptosystems.
