Today, Monday 18.06.2007, Roberto Avanzi and Nicolas Theriault
will give two talks on implementations aspects of curves of low
genus over fields of characteristic two. Roberto Avanzi will
focus on the finite field implementation, and Nicolas Theriault
on the improvement of group operations. Nicolas Theriault, a
student of V. Kumar Murty, is currently Professor at the
University of Talca, Chile.

Effects of Optimizations for Software Implementations of Small
Binary Field Arithmetic

Abstract: We describe a new implementation of binary field
arithmetic. Several fields are implemented and individually
optimised. This results in an implementation of field arithmetic
where the curve representing field multiplication performance
closely resembles the theoretical quadratic bit-complexity that
can be expected for small inputs. This has important practical
consequences; For instance, it will allow us to make a fair
comparisons of the performance of the performance of the
arithmetic on curves of different genera for cryptographic
applications: This will be the subject of Nicolas Theriault's
talk.

Nicolas Theriault

Improving the Performance Hyperelliptic Curve Cryptosystems

Abstract: In this talk, we describe the role hyperelliptic
curves can play in cryptography, and how the group operations
can be improved to give a more efficient encryption.
