[HGI-News-de] HGI-Kolloquium am 30.01.2014: "Cryptography in the Presence of Side Channel Leakage"

Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren,

im Rahmen des HGI-Kolloquiums, organisiert von der Arbeitsgruppe
Sichere Hardware und dem Horst-Görtz-Institut der Ruhr-Universität
Bochum, wird Thomas Eisenbarth vom Worcester Polytechnic Institute,
am nächsten Donnerstag, den 30. Januar 2014 um 12 Uhr s.t. in Raum
ID 03/411 über folgendes Thema referieren:

"Cryptography in the Presence of Side Channel Leakage":The security
of many embedded computing solutions relies on cryptographic engines.
A remaining threat to embedded cryptographic engines are side-channel
attacks. While their applicability is limited to cases where an
adversary can sample the side-channel leakage, the attacks usually
succeed easily in those cases, unless the implementer invested
considerable effort to prevent these attacks. However, common
countermeasures against physical attacks are not completely fail-safe
and overly expensive for most applications. This presentation will
provide insight into some of the challenges of embedded security
design; how side-channel leakage can be exploited, and how novel
methods may make attacks infeasible in future applications.

Thomas Eisenbarth is assistant professor at the Department of
Electrical & Computer Engineering at WPI. His research interests
include embedded security, efficient implementation of cryptographic
algorithms, physical attacks and countermeasures. Before joining WPI
he spent two years at the Center for Cryptology and Information
Security (CCIS) at Florida Atlantic University. He received his Ph.D.
in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Ruhr University Bochum,
Germany where he worked as a member of the Horst Goertz Institute
for IT Security.
