W3 Professorship for Privacy
Description
Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB)<https://www.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/en> is one of Germany's leading research universities. The University draws its strengths from both the diversity and the proximity of scientific and engineering disciplines on a single, coherent campus. This highly dynamic setting enables students and researchers to work across traditional boundaries of academic subjects and faculties.
A W3 Professorship for Privacy is to be filled at the Center of Computer Science<https://informatik.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/?lang=en> within the Faculty of Mathematics of Ruhr-Universität Bochum at the earliest possible date.
Job Requirements
Applicants should have an excellent track record in research and teaching in at least one of the following areas:
* Cryptographic tools for privacy,
* Theoretical foundations of privacy,
* Differential privacy and private data analysis,
* Machine learning and privacy,
* Anonymous communication and censorship resistance,
* Economics and Privacy.
We are looking for a scientist with an internationally visible research profile who will complement existing research areas and actively participate in the development of the Center of Computer Science (led by the Faculties of Mathematics and Electrical Engineering and Information Technology).
A willingness to cooperate with the Horst Görtz IT Security Research Department<https://hgi.rub.de/en/home/> and an active role in current and planned projects is expected, especially in the Cluster of Excellence "CASA: Cyber Security in the Age of Large-Scale Adversaries". The Max Planck Institute for Cyber Security and Privacy offers additional possibilities for collaboration.
The responsibilities of the professorship include teaching in the IT security and computer science study programs. The prerequisites are excellent scientific qualifications, usually proven by a doctorate of outstanding quality and top international publications, as well as proof of particular suitability for academic teaching. Positive evaluation as a junior professor or equivalent academic or significant post-doctoral research contributions, substantial acquisition of third-party funding and teaching experience are as much required as the willingness to participate in the self-governing bodies of the RUB.
Furthermore, the following are expected for the professorship:
* a high level of commitment to teaching,
* the willingness to engage in interdisciplinary scientific work,
* significant acquisitions of third-party funded research projects and participation in existing research collaborations.
Ruhr-Universität Bochum is an equal opportunity employer.
Applications with the usual documents (curriculum vitae, copies of certificates, list of publications, proof of particular suitability for academic teaching, details of research interests, list of own third-party funding), if possible in digital form, should be sent by October 11, 2020 to the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics at Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Prof. Dr. Peter Eichelsbacher, e-mail: mathe-dekanat at rub.de<mailto:mathe-dekanat at rub.de>.
