We are pleased to announce the ECRYPT Summer School on the Challenges
in Security Engineering (CSE) from Sep, 3 to Sep 7 2012. The summer
school will take place in Bochum, Germany prior the CHES workshop. Due
to the short distance between Bochum and Leuven, both events can be
easily combined.

The challenges in security engineering that will be addressed include
efficient cryptographic implementations in hardware and software,
protection methods and countermeasures against physical (i.e., on
chip-, board-, and system level) attacks as well as side-channels and
fault analysis. One day of the summer school is further dedicated to
the topic of real-world attacks and will provide vivid examples of
security breaches (and also remedies, if available). A two-day
hands-on introductory workshop for all participants will cover
implementing and attacking a cryptographic implementation on a smart
card (Master/first year PhD level).

Besides social events like BBQ and pub tours, we offer an excursion on
the bridge day between the summer school and CHES (i.e., on Sept 8) to
Cologne. This includes a sightseeing tour of the venerable city and a
visit of the cathedral. Participants are then free to continue their
travel to Leuven or any other destination.

The summer school will cover the following topics:
	? Cryptographic implementations (lightweight/high-performance)
? Protection mechanisms of cryptographic implementations
? Inspection and modification of security hardware and products
	? Attacks on real-world systems
? Two lab days on introduction to smart-card security
DAY 1: Implementation of a cryptosystem on a SmartCard
DAY 2: Side-channel attacks on the cryptosystem on the SmartCard
