In recent years, there has been a shift from the traditional
information and communication technologies (ICT) environment
towards the Internet of Things (IoT), resulting in a close
coupling of computing nodes with the underlying hardware.
Independently, the threat of quantum computers, which could
lead to the break of all established public-key cryptosystems
such as RSA, discrete log and ECC, forces cryptographers to
design efficient alternatives. Even though several alternative
("post-quantum") public-key schemes exist, the understanding of
their hardware performance is still limited.

Those developments make the issue of hardware performance and
security an urgent matter. In this workshop, we will investigate
to what extent it is possible to define meaningful benchmarks for
hardware. In particular, we will explore how to develop frameworks
that allow us to structure and implement benchmarks for efficient
implementations, while taking various parameters such as area,
power, energy, throughput or latency into account. We will not
only cover ASICs and FPGAs, but also include approaches based
on hardware-software co-design.

The workshop will also target evaluation criteria and benchmarks
for physical threats to cryptographic hardware implementation,
including side-channel attacks and hardware Trojans.
