The Cluster of Excellence CASA, located at
the Horst Görtz Institute for IT Security, is pleased to
announce the 1st CASA Summer School. The Summer School is open
to all Early Career Researchers with an interest in
cybersecurity, with a focus on the (exciting) topic of
backdoors and Trojans. This exciting topic area will be
addressed in its whole complexity, ranging from cryptography
all the way to human aspects. You will:

learn about the most famous standardized backdoor,

work on reversing hardware circuits by using a powerful
open-source tool,

discuss whether Johnny can encrypt and whether he wants
to do this, and

get an overview of the state-of-the-art memory
exploitation techniques and defenses.

Lectures throughout the Summer School will
be combined with practical exercises. These excercises provide
an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the material
presented and to integrate them into your own research.

The Summer School will be held in English.

With Melanie Rieback, we have a fantastic
keynote speaker. In her presentation, she will share her
experiences with hacking and Radically Open Security and
critically reflect on Computer Science education. On the
second day, Jiska Classen will lead a hacker workshop that is
appropriate for all skill levels.

The Workshop for Women in IT Security will
also be held in English.
