[SPINA] 20 years of SPINA-Thyr / 20 Jahre SPINA Thyr

20 years ago (actually a bit more than 20 years) SPINA Thyr has been for the first time publicly demonstrated at the 2nd congress of the European Federation of Internal Medicine in May 1999 in Florence, Italy. What included a poster presentation and a short abstract was the beginning of a now astonishingly extensive story. Today, we look back to nearly 30 research papers from all over the world, which cover clinical trials with more than 15000 participants. It could be shown that SPINA-GT and SPINA-GD correlate to numerous physiological parameters, that they predict the prognosis in several phenotypes of non-thyroidal illness syndrome (TACITUS) and that their diagnostic performance (in terms of validity, reliability, sensitivity and specificity) is generally better than that of simple univariate measured parameters.

Vor 20 Jahren (genau genommen vor geringfügig mehr als 20 Jahren) wurde SPINA Thyr erstmals öffentlich demonstriert, und zwar auf dem 2. Kongress der European Federation of Internal Medicine im Mai 1999 in Florenz. Was als Poster-Präsentation und kurzes Abstract startete, war tatsächlich der Beginn eines nun erstaunlich umfangreichen Projekts. Heute können wir auf fast 30 Originalarbeiten aus der ganzen Welt zurückblicken, die klinische Studien mit mehr als 15000 Teilnehmern umfassen. Kurz gefasst konnte dort u. a. gezeigt werden, dass SPINA-GT und SPINA-GD mit zahlreichen physiologischen Parametern korrelieren, dass sie die Prognose in verschiedenen Phänotypen des Non-Thyroidal-Illness-Syndroms (TACITUS) voraussagen und dass ihre diagnostische Leistung (insbesondere ihre Validität, Reliabilität, Sensitivität und Spezifität) vielfach die einfacher univariater Parameter übertrifft.
